Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that since the offences under Sections 342 and 323 IPC are compoundable as per sub-section (1) of Section 320 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, and the parties have settled amicably, an order of acquittal is warranted. The Court emphasized that under sub-section (8) of Section 320, the appellants can be acquitted from the charges they were convicted for. Consequently, the appeal was allowed and the appellants were acquitted.
