Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the appointment of respondent no.1 as an Assistant Teacher on an ad-hoc basis did not confer any right to regularization, as established in Secretary, State of Karnataka & Ors. v. Umadevi & Ors. (2006) 4 SCC 1, which states that temporary or casual appointments do not entitle individuals to seek regularization under Articles 14 and 16 of the Constitution of India. The Court set aside the High Court's order that had directed regularization, affirming that respondent no.1's services were dispensed with in November 1995. The appeal was allowed, with a directive to disburse any due arrears to respondent no.1 up to 31st October 1995 within four weeks.
