Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission erred in calculating the compensation amount, determining it should be Rs.7,92,000 instead of Rs.6,54,000 as awarded. The Court ordered that after deducting Rs.50,000 already paid, the remaining amount of Rs.7,42,000 is payable to the appellants with interest at nine percent per annum from the date of filing the complaint, i.e., 20th April 2000, until realization. The appeal was allowed in part, correcting the compensation figure and ensuring interest was awarded from the complaint's filing date.
