Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court held that the appellants are entitled to enhanced compensation of Rs. 7,92,000 under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, after correcting the National Commission's calculation which had erroneously set it at Rs. 6,54,000. The Court directed that after deducting Rs. 50,000 already paid by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the remaining amount of Rs. 7,42,000 should be paid with interest at 9% per annum from the date of filing the complaint, i.e., 20th April 2000. The appeal was allowed in part, affirming the right to interest from the date of the complaint.
