Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the amendment to the definition of 'Crushing Season' in the U.P. Cane Cooperative Service Regulations, 1975, as per the order dated 17th May 1993, adversely affected the employment and wages of seasonal workers, thereby violating their rights under the U.P. Cooperative Societies Act, 1965. The Court emphasized that employment should not be limited to the crushing period alone, as significant work is required before and after this period. The appeal was allowed, overturning the High Court's dismissal of the writ petition challenging the amendment and the termination of services of a seasonal worker.
