Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the Andhra Pradesh High Court's decision regarding contempt of court, confirming that the Mandal Revenue Officer and other authorities had committed contempt by willfully disobeying court orders. Instead of ordering demolition of unauthorized constructions, the Court directed the authorities to pay compensation to the petitioner at the rate of Rs. 5,000 per sq. yard as per Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act. The Court maintained that the question of jurisdiction and maintainability of the land grabbing case would be considered by the Special Court in future proceedings.
