Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the demand for penalties raised by the appellant-Corporation for violations of peak hour restrictions cannot be maintained based on a single Meter Reading Inspection Report (MRI). The Court interpreted Section 22-B of the Electricity Act, 1910, and the U.P. Electricity (Regulation of Supply, Distribution, Consumption and Use) Order, 1977, concluding that multiple contraventions during the period covered by one MRI should not be treated as a single violation. The appeal was dismissed, affirming the High Court's decision.
