Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 22-B of the Electricity Act, 1910, a single Meter Reading Inspection Report (MRI) should be interpreted as a single violation of commercial restrictions, regardless of multiple contraventions by consumers. The Court found that the Allahabad High Court's order, which invalidated the penalty demand based on multiple violations during the MRI period, was incorrect. Consequently, the appeal was allowed, affirming the validity of the penalty as per the established regulations.
