Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the inheritance rights of hereditary poojaris at the Sri Prabhudeva Temple in Terdal, Karnataka, under the principles of property law. The Court upheld the lower courts' decrees affirming the plaintiffs' joint right to perform pooja and receive offerings every twelve years, as established in the consent terms from a previous suit (OS No.143 of 1956). The Court clarified that non-perishable offerings received by the poojari in his individual capacity need not be shared with the plaintiffs, thereby reinforcing the terms of the earlier settlement.
