Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the GAMS degree obtained by the petitioners was not valid as it was not recognized by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) under the Indian Medicine Central Council Act, 1970. The Court affirmed the High Court's decision that only degrees conferred under the BAMS course prescribed by CCIM are valid for admission to postgraduate courses. The Court emphasized that the provisions of the Bihar Indigenous Medical Educational Institution (Regulation and Control) Act, 1982, regulate institutions imparting Ayurvedic education, and the GAMS degree does not meet these requirements.
