Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the respondent, Suresh Ramkrishna Burde, was wrongfully appointed to a position reserved for Scheduled Tribes based on a false caste certificate, which was invalidated by the Scrutiny Committee under the Maharashtra Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, De-notified Tribes (Vimukta Jatis), Nomadic Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Regulation of Issuance of Caste Certificate) Act, 2000. The Court emphasized the importance of verifying caste claims to prevent misuse of reservations and upheld the High Court's directive to reinstate the respondent without benefits of the reserved category. The appeal was dismissed, affirming the lower court's decision.
