GOPAL SINGH vs STATE CADRE FOREST OFFICERS' ASSON.&ORS.

The Supreme Court addressed the appeals concerning the promotion of the appellant, an employee of the Forest Department of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, to the post of Deputy Conservator of Forests under the Andaman Forest Department (Class I & Class II Gazetted Posts) Recruitment Rules, 1963. The Court held that the appellant's claim for promotion was valid as his position as Assistant Mill Manager was equivalent to that of Assistant Conservator of Forests, thus qualifying him for consideration for the Deputy Conservator of Forests post. The judgment of the High Court was set aside, reinstating the Tribunal's decision in favor of the appellant.
