The Supreme Court held that under Section 11A of the Land Acquisition Act, an award must be made within two years from the publication of the declaration under Section 6, and failure to do so renders the award invalid. The Court clarified that the date of last publication of the declaration under Section 6 is critical, and subsequent corrigendums do not extend this period. Consequently, the Court quashed the award dated 4.2.2003, ruling it was made beyond the statutory time limit.
