Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed petitions under Article 32 concerning the legality of the statistical scaling system used by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission for evaluating candidates in the Civil Judge (Junior Division) examination. The Court held that the scaling system was arbitrary and violated the principles of fairness and merit, thus infringing upon the candidates' fundamental rights. Consequently, the Court quashed the results of the examination and directed the Commission to re-evaluate the candidates based on their actual marks without scaling.
