Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court, while adjudicating a writ petition under Article 32 of the Constitution, directed the Union of India to fulfill welfare promises made to the widows of Kargil war martyrs. The Court noted that 492 cases were recommended for benefits under the 'Operation Vijay' scheme, with 445 effective recommendations and only 9 pending cases due to land availability issues. The Court held that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas had substantially complied with its earlier directions, thereby ensuring the welfare of the affected families.
