The Supreme Court addressed a petition challenging the increase of reserved seats for Scheduled Tribes in Uttaranchal from two to three, citing Article 332(3) of the Constitution of India. Consequently, the Court quashed the Election Commission's notification and affirmed that only two seats should be reserved for Scheduled Tribes in the Legislative Assembly of Uttaranchal.
