Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court, under the Supreme Court (Enlargement of Criminal Appellate Jurisdiction) Act, 1970, overturned the High Court's reversal of acquittal for the appellants charged under Sections 143, 147, 148, 341, 324, 342, 504, and 302 read with Section 149 IPC. The Court established that the prosecution failed to prove the common object of the accused to commit murder, leading to the conclusion that the evidence was insufficient to uphold the conviction. Consequently, the Court reinstated the acquittal of the appellants.
