Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court held that the selection process for the Extra Departmental Sub Post Master position was flawed as it failed to adhere to the principles of fair recruitment, particularly regarding the requirement for public notification and consideration of all eligible candidates as mandated by the corrigendum and prior case law (Excise Superintendent Malkapatnam, Krishna District, A.P. Vs. K.B.N. Visweshwara Rao, 1996(6) SCC 216). The Court emphasized that the selection must be conducted afresh, allowing all candidates to be considered on merit. The judgment of the High Court was set aside, reinstating the Tribunal's order for a new selection process.
