Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that employees of the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam are entitled to retire at the age of 60 years, aligning their retirement age with that of state government employees, as per the interpretation of Regulation 31. The Court set aside the High Court's dismissal of writ petitions challenging the retirement age of 58 years, affirming that unless Regulation 31 is amended, the age of superannuation for Nigam employees shall be 60 years. The Court ordered that any employees wrongfully retired at 58 should receive salary until 60, payable within three months.
