Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellant under Section 7 and Section 13(1)(d) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, affirming the trial court's finding that the appellant, a Health Inspector, demanded and accepted illegal gratification from the complainant. The Court noted that the evidence of prosecution witnesses was credible despite the non-support of one witness, and the sentences of three years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.20,000 were deemed appropriate. The concurrent running of sentences was also upheld.
