Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that employees of the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam are entitled to retire at the age of 60 years, aligning their retirement age with that of state government employees, as per the precedent set in Harwindra Kumar v. State of U.P. (2005) 13 SCC 300. The Court held that unless Regulation 31 is amended, the retirement age of 60 years shall apply, and any amendments made by the Nigam must be prospective. The Court set aside the High Court's dismissal of writ petitions challenging the 58-year retirement age and ordered payment of salaries to those affected for the period until they reach 60 years, if applicable.
