Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's decision that the Bar Council of India's Resolution No. 68/1999, which discontinued evening L.L.B. courses, violated Section 7(1)(h) of the Advocates Act due to lack of proper consultation with universities. The Court affirmed that effective consultation is a prerequisite for such amendments, and the Bar Council's failure to adhere to this requirement rendered the amendment unsustainable. Consequently, the appeals by the Bar Council were dismissed, allowing candidates from evening courses to seek enrolment with the Bar Council.
