Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed appeals concerning the compulsory retirement of employees by the State of Madhya Pradesh, which were initially set aside by the Madhya Pradesh State Administrative Tribunal due to improper constitution of the Screening Committee and non-application of mind. The Tribunal's order for reinstatement with full back wages was upheld, but the High Court later allowed fresh screening, resulting in retrospective compulsory retirement orders. The Supreme Court found that since the employees had already retired after reinstatement, further examination of the High Court's decision was deemed unnecessary, rendering the issue academic.
