Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 26(6) of the Indian Electricity Act, 1910, a consumer must raise a dispute regarding the accuracy of an electricity meter before the Electrical Inspector. The Court found that the first respondent, Laffans (India) Pvt. Ltd., failed to do so, thus upholding the demand for payment based on revised bills issued due to undercharging. The judgment of the Bombay High Court was set aside, and the appeal by the Bombay Electricity Supply and Transport Undertaking was allowed, reinstating the demand notice.
