Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the Andhra Pradesh Scheduled Castes (Rationalisation of Reservations) Act, 2000, affirming the State's legislative competence under Articles 15(4) and 16(4) of the Constitution of India to categorize Scheduled Castes into groups for the purpose of reservations. The Court ruled that the Act does not violate the Presidential List under Article 341(1) and that the classification is reasonable and justifiable. Consequently, the appeals challenging the Act were dismissed.
