Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the High Court erred in quashing the criminal proceedings against the respondent on the grounds that the police officer who registered the FIR should not have investigated the case. The Court clarified that there is no provision in the Criminal Procedure Code that disqualifies a police officer from investigating a cognizable offence after registering the FIR, as per Sections 154, 156, and 157 of the Code. Consequently, the Court set aside the High Court's order and reinstated the criminal proceedings against the respondent.
