Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that in cases of land acquisition, the market value must be determined based on evidence of comparable sales, as established in Civil Appeal No. 7463 of 1997, where the market value was fixed at Rs. 24.64 per sq. yard. The Court emphasized that reliance on orders from the Stamp Officer or District Magistrate without evidence of comparable sales is insufficient for valuation. Consequently, the Court awarded the same market value as determined in the earlier case, thereby ensuring uniformity in compensation across similar acquisitions.
