Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court overturned the Allahabad High Court's judgment that acquitted the accused of charges under Section 20(b)(2) and Section 23 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. The Court held that the prosecution had established the case beyond reasonable doubt, as the accused's voluntary statements and the recovery of 100 kg of charas from the concealed cavity of the Jeep were admissible and sufficient to uphold the conviction. The Court reinstated the conviction and sentence of 15 years imprisonment and a fine of one lakh rupees.
