Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the validity of the Uttar Pradesh Sheera Niyantran Adhiniyam, 1964, specifically addressing the constitutionality of Rule 24 which restricts the transportation of molasses without permission from the Controller. The Court ruled that the restrictions imposed do not violate Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution, as they are necessary for regulating the supply of molasses produced by vacuum pan process, which constitutes the majority in the state. The appeal against the Allahabad High Court's dismissal of the writ petition was therefore dismissed, affirming the legality of the orders issued by the Controller.
