Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court set aside the Madhya Pradesh High Court's order that prohibited the screening of the film 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' unless a scene depicting the national anthem was deleted. The Court held that the Government of India's instructions indicate that audiences are not required to stand during the national anthem when shown in films, as it may disrupt the screening and create disorder. Consequently, the appeals were allowed, and the High Court's directive was overturned without costs.
