Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the employees of the Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Development Corporation, who opted for the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS), were entitled to three months notice pay despite having drawn salaries beyond the cut-off date. The Court interpreted the provisions of the VRS and clarified that the notice pay should be granted as the employees were not at fault for the delay in processing their applications. The judgment of the High Court was upheld, directing the Corporation to calculate terminal benefits as if the employees were in service until the actual date of relief.
