Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the issue of whether the Andhra Pradesh Government was obligated to reserve 15% of non-local seats for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes under Article 371-D and Article 15(4) of the Constitution. The Court upheld the Full Bench decision of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, affirming that the existing policy did not mandate such reservations for non-local seats. The Court concluded that the provisions of the A.P. Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions) Order, 1974, do not require reservations for the unreserved category, thereby dismissing the appeal.
