Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Madras High Court regarding the admission of students to Government Medical Colleges under the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of seats in educational Institutions and of appointment or posts in services under the State) Act, 1993. The Court clarified that the allocation of seats must adhere to the prescribed cut-off marks, which were adjusted based on prior directions from the Court. The Court ruled that the writ petitioners, having secured lower marks than the cut-off, were not entitled to admission in the Government College category, thereby affirming the High Court's dismissal of their claims.
