Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed whether the Andhra Pradesh Government was obligated to reserve 15% of non-local seats for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes under Article 371-D and Article 15(4) of the Constitution of India. The Court held that the provisions of the A.P. Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions) Order, 1974 do not preclude the reservation of seats for these categories even in the context of unreserved seats. Consequently, the appeals against the High Court's decision were dismissed, affirming the necessity of such reservations.
