Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court addressed the issue of reservation for visually handicapped persons in teaching posts under Section 33 of the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. The Court noted that the Government of India had updated the list of identified posts as per Section 32 of the Act, allowing for a 5% relaxation in cut-off marks for visually disabled candidates in the NET examination. The Court held that the arrangements made by the University Grants Commission are in line with the policy of the Government, and thus disposed of the application regarding UGC, while adjourning other related matters for further consideration.
