Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the appellant, an employee of Indian Overseas Bank, should be allowed to join the pension scheme despite the bank's argument that his authorization was not submitted within the 60-day period as mandated by the 'Staff Pension Scheme under the Indian Overseas Bank Employees (Pension) Regulation of 1993'. The Court found that the earlier authorization and the subsequent one indicated the employee's intention to join the pension scheme, and thus, it would be equitable to permit his inclusion. The judgment of the High Court was set aside, directing the bank to sanction the pension amount within three months.
