The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellant under Section 9(c) read with Section 18 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 for possessing 11 grams of opium without a license. The Court found that the prosecution had substantially complied with the provisions of Sections 42 and 50 of the Act, which govern search and seizure procedures. The sentence of 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1 lakh was affirmed, as the appellant had already served approximately 8 years of his sentence.
