Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the remission of sentence granted to respondents under various notifications by the Punjab Government was valid, as per the provisions of Section 432 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973. The Court established that even if the respondents did not serve the actual sentence due to being on bail, the cumulative effect of the remission covered the sentence period, thus deeming them to have served their sentence. The appeal against the High Court's dismissal of the petition for quashing the remission was therefore dismissed, upholding the legality of the remission granted.
