Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the High Court of Madhya Pradesh erred in quashing the charges against the accused under Section 313 and 498A IPC, as the court at Jabalpur had jurisdiction based on Section 179 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which allows for trial in either the location where the act was committed or where the consequence ensued. The Court clarified that since the miscarriage occurred in Jabalpur, the Jabalpur court could exercise jurisdiction despite the alleged acts occurring in Indore. The Supreme Court set aside the High Court's order and reinstated the charges against the accused.
