Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the interpretation of notice requirements under sub-section (2) of Section 14 of the Arbitration Act, 1940, holding that notice of the filing of an award need not be in writing, and communication to the counsel representing a party suffices. The Court determined that the trial court's order dated 13.11.1998 constituted adequate notice, thus overturning the High Court's decision which had allowed the revision petition on the grounds of insufficient notice. The appeal was allowed, and the earlier ruling of the High Court was set aside.
