State Of Andhra Pradesh & Ors vs Nallamilli Rami Reddi & Ors

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Andhra Pradesh High Court declaring Section 82(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Charitable & Hindu Religious Institutions & Endowments Act, 1987 unconstitutional for violating Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution. The Court found that the provision arbitrarily discriminated against tenants of lands held by religious institutions, thus infringing on their tenancy rights. Additionally, Section 82(2) was also deemed problematic as it failed to protect landless poor persons adequately, leading to further discrimination among similarly situated tenants.
