Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the pension amount received by Presidents of the District Consumer Forum, appointed under Section 10 of the Consumer Protection Act, cannot be deducted from their salary as per the provisions of the Act and the Rules. The Court held that the right to receive pension is a statutory right and cannot be altered by an administrative order, thus declaring the Government Order dated 25th January 1996 as illegal and void. The Court emphasized that the conditions of service, including salary, are governed by the Act and cannot be modified by executive action.
