Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the interpretation of a Will and the rights of a widow under the Hindu Succession Act, 1956. The Court held that Guruswamy had a limited right under the Will dated 1st June 1942, and consequently, his widow Sevamma could not claim absolute ownership under Section 14(1) of the Act to execute a sale deed. The Court ruled that the sale deed executed by Sevamma was not binding on the plaintiffs, as the property would revert to them after the death of both Guruswamy and Sevamma.
