Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court examined the validity of ad hoc appointments made by the District Judge under the Subordinate Civil Courts Ministerial Establishment Rules, 1947, and the Recruitment of Ministerial Staff to the Subordinate Offices Rules, 1950. It held that such appointments must comply with statutory rules and that the Uttar Pradesh Regularisation of Ad hoc appointments Rules, 1979, govern the regularisation of services for ad hoc employees. The Court concluded that the ad hoc appointments made after 21.5.1992 were illegal and could not claim regularisation, thus upholding the Allahabad High Court's dismissal of the writ petitions.
