Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court dismissed the contempt petitions regarding the determination of the levy price of sugar for the years 1974-75 to 1979-80, holding that the revised price fixed at Rs. 172.430 complied with the earlier directions under Section 3(3C) of the Essential Commodities Act. The Court clarified that the retention of 50% of excess realisation by sugar manufacturers, as per Clause 5A of the Sugarcane Control Order, was appropriately considered in the price fixation. The Court found no grounds for contempt or further direction to refix the levy price.
