Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the validity of the Indian Electricity (U.P. Amendment and Validation) Act, 1976, which amended Sections 6 and 7-A of the Indian Electricity Act, 1910. The Court clarified that the amendments did not violate any fundamental rights and were within the legislative competence of the State. The appeal against the Calcutta High Court's dismissal was therefore rejected, affirming the legality of the Ordinance and subsequent Act.
