Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that Section 92 of the Evidence Act prohibits the introduction of parol evidence to modify or rescind the terms of a registered settlement deed. The Court affirmed the High Court's decision that the registered settlement deed executed on 26.3.1915 could not be altered by subsequent oral arrangements made in 1941. Consequently, the appeal was dismissed, upholding the partition decree in favor of the plaintiff, Venugopal Pillai.
