Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the non-compliance of its order dated 13th September 1999, which mandated the cessation of industrial effluent discharge into the river Yamuna. The Court noted that despite notices issued to 1142 industrial units by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, no substantial action had been taken to implement the order. Consequently, the Court issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Delhi Administration to explain the failure to comply with its directives, emphasizing that the Government must take necessary steps to prevent pollution of the river.
