Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the convictions of the appellants under Section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, for possession of poppy husks. The Court held that the term 'poppy straw' as defined in Section 2(xviii) includes all parts of the opium poppy plant except seeds, thus affirming that poppy husks fall within this definition. Consequently, the Court upheld the convictions and sentences of rigorous imprisonment for ten years and fines imposed on the appellants.
