Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the legality of the Vice-Chancellor's decision under Section 11(5) of the Kurukshetra University Act, 1986, which allowed the admission of Jyoti Sharma over candidates Mukesh and Sunaina, who were higher in the merit list. The Court held that the Vice-Chancellor's exercise of power was unjustified and that the High Court erred in directing Jyoti Sharma's admission without considering candidates with higher merit. Consequently, the appeals were allowed, reinstating the admissions of Mukesh and Sunaina.
